A novel solution for school renovations: Combining diffuse ceiling ventilation with double skin facade

With the aim to increase today's low retrofitting rate and thus decrease currently rising energy consumption of building sector, this work proposes a novel renovation concept for schools. Therefore, two components, double skin facade (DSF) diffuse ceiling ventilation (DCV), are combined with an exhaust system, providing alternative traditional where windows replaced, external wall is insulated balanced system installed. Further, based on Danish case study classroom, different configurations varying glazing properties DSF cavity thicknesses compared against range renovations through performance simulation using IDA-ICE. The results indicate that new can achieve up 11% lower total primary as best while achieving equal indoor environmental quality therefore offering designers engineers competitive school projects. Additionally, employing sensitivity analysis, it could be demonstrated global thermal comfort (number panes physical properties) has superior influence thickness. • Combined DCV existing renovations.
